So after all the debating back and forth, the excellent suggestions by all as to whether we wanted before the books, after all the books, after the first trilogy, a compromise was found and seems to be generally accepted by all to set set this game 80 years after the second set of books, Imriel's Trilogy. 80 years allows for for any and all canon characters from the books to have shuffled off the mortal coil to the Terre that waits for them all.
What then, does this mean that we need to sort out.
1. Houses that were 'traitors' 2. Succession from the end of the books till now. 3. What happened to the Canon characters.
A timeline can now be started on.

How many generations are we putting between Imriel and the current Monarch? How many greats are we putting before the grandparent?

Depends on whether we want to straight flat out ignore the third series which I believe we want to. If we're going to ignore them, then we can even fudge to 100-150 years. Because the third series takes place 100 ish years supposedly, after the second series.
So if we go 90, it means Ysandre probably within ten years of Mercy, abdicates and Sidonie ascends at... early 30's. Rules till she's... say... 50? Abdicates in favour of Anielle (Likely early 30's as well), who has ruled 20 ish years and is tired of ruling, or maybe she's died of natural causes early, or is still alive come when she's 50-60 and now it's the daughter/son who's reigning, that we don't have a name for. We can have her/him be younger, or they can be roughly the same ages again, as when previous generations took the throne. So this would be two generations from in book canon characters reigning.
If we choose to make it further away (And skip the third series) we can go another generation, but we're starting to run into KD territory.
